Anchored in Marxism

Marxism is primarily concerned with defining and evaluating "work" qua alienation. This is as non-controversial a provisional definition as I can muster for a theoretical datum that is already extremely variegated. It is necessary to dispel a certain fog or stupor characterized by Derrida as spectral, all those fever-dreams of revolution must be purified and worked-through (inasmuch as we are concerned with a communist "hypothesis" whose implementation has so far apparently failed). Those of us involved with politics grow fatigued with variegated poltroonery and rampant corruption. One might say that of other social theories, but I am qualifying Marxism as being concerned with a theory of work in the sense that the theory of work it offers combines multiple philosophical idioms and fields into one, making its particular way of conceptualizing work robust enough to include numerous phenomenological, existential, epistemological and, above all, dialectical component...

How to Make Your "self" into a Vortex or: Towards a NeoVorticist Theory of the Body (Preamble and Preface)

How to Make Your "self" into a Vortex or: Towards a NeoVorticist Theory of the Body Preamble: At the limits of "pretending" (all stops pulled out), we do something (in)authentic, a new habit is formed, and our previous personality is blurred into something weirder. Only a kind of "fool" or artist would apply a kind of generic analysis of practical reason to ALL his activities. Because this would subject even the pure irrational of experience to reason. You cannot subject the absurd or the poetic or even the hilarious to reason. And, hulking boobs that we are, it's like our brains are terribly overweight. How get into shape? How be in harmony with all the stuff around? How be in time and space geometries?? Kant's revolution has made us all crazy, in this precise sense. But that's nothing that should get one's panties in a wad, or whatever. We ought not to wig out about this, we shouldn't worry. Preface: on the Possibility that Life is ...

On Religion as an Alternative to Thought (Fragment)

Image
Religious ritual creates a fixed space, a kind of standing in place, whose repetitions only ever involve partial catharsis (assuming we are speaking of orthodox religion). Thought is itself not unlike the experience of being initiated into it, i.e. the process of reading. The movement from beginning to end, the completion of the dialectical circle, requires that we suspend judgement and in a sense, suspend the organs in Deleuze's sense. In this sense, religion is akin to an obsessional neurosis, or, in the language of modern psychiatry, attention deficit disorder. For one does not "read" the bible, i.e. the religious person repeatedly affirms the supposed truths which it contains, and returns always to a limited number of fixed points, as someone who prays the rosary alternately repeats the lord's prayer and the hail mary. The more repetitive, the better, for the religious individual. But for the thinker properly speaking, this total certainty is replaced with wha...
